It was Karthigai Pournami last nite. Thus the three days lighting of oil lamp began. The first day is "Temple Karthigai" meaning temples are brightly lit and decorated with these oil lamps. The second and third days are "House Karthigai", meaning the celebration is emphasized more to homes.
Homemakers celebrate this festival by lighting rows of lamps in their homes. The lighted lamps are believed to be auspicious for any Hindu festival but for festivals like Karthigai Deepam and Deepavali (Theeba Oli) it is indispensable.
As I surfed the net this morning for images of Tiruvannamalai, Tamil Nadu I came across these two awesome photos.
